Best Green Markets in the Palm Beaches

Healthy eating and healthy living is part of the culture in South Florida. Groceries and the food that we keep in our homes are a big part of that. For those who like to buy organic, natural, and or local, here are a few of the best green markets to visit in the Palm Beaches.
WPB GreenMarket
Open: Oct. 5 through April 18
Hours: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays
Location: Along the West Palm Beach Waterfront, Clematis St. at Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach. (Because of the ongoing work on the Clematis Streetscape project, GreenMarket vendors will be located along Flagler Drive for part of the season.)
Highlights: This waterfront green market, which celebrates its 25th season, offers one of the loveliest settings of all the local markets. When there’s a sea breeze off the Intracoastal Waterway fluttering the fronds of the royal palms along Flagler Drive, and you’ve got more than 90 vendors to browse, Saturday mornings don’t get much better. The vendors include local growers (like Swank Specialty Produce, Gratitude Garden and Farmhouse Tomatoes), coffee roasters (Pumphouse Coffee), bakers (including Aioli and Loic), fresh sweets (yes, Cider Doughnuts), and a large variety of made-to-order foods, artisanal cheeses, teas, spices, plants and other finds. The market is kid-friendly with free activities for kids, plus entertainment. And for $10, you can buy unlimited mimosas to help unwind after a wild work week.

The Palm Beach Gardens GreenMarket
Open: Oct. 6 through May 5
Hours: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays
Location: City Hall Municipal Complex, 10500 N. Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens
Highlights: After a summer at the STORE Self Storage and Wine Storage some blocks away, this market reopens at City Hall each fall. You’ll find at least 140 vendors with farm-fresh produce, local honey, baked goods, fresh herbs, a variety of orchids, artisanal cheeses and even a few holiday crafts. The market is a great place to stop for breakfast or lunch and enjoy either at the scattered picnic tables. Plus, there’s live music to browse by. Its location by a city playground and batting cages make it a bustling spot for families.

The Village of Royal Palm Beach Green Market & Bazaar
Open: Oct. 19 through April 25
Hours: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays
Location: Lakeside at Village Hall, 1050 Royal Palm Beach Blvd., Royal Palm Beach
Highlights: This market moved from Veterans Park to Lakeside at Village Hall this year. Now the market can accommodate bigger trailers and food trucks, as well as larger displays. Another plus: The new site at the southeast corner of Okeechobee and Royal Palm Beach boulevards is more visible and stands to get more traffic, which appeals to vendors. For the shoppers, the market boasts a beautiful and tranquil lakeside atmosphere, perfect for a stroll. As always, the focus is locally grown organic fruits and vegetables, local honey, herbs, spices and fresh flowers, plus hand-made foods like fresh-baked goods.

Lake Worth Farmers’ Market
Open: Oct. 19 through April 25
Hours: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays
Location: Old Bridge Park, A1A at Lake Avenue (1 S. Ocean Blvd.), Lake Worth
Highlights: This is a true farmers market with fresh-picked local produce from area growers, so expect a farm-to-kitchen table experience. The market boasts 80 vendors selling everything from gourmet foods to baked goods and fresh-ground coffees. Their stands are set up along along the Intracoastal Waterway in the shade of the Lake Worth Bridge.
